Syed Hasib, a journalist for Machranga Television, is currently hospitalized with 92 rubber bullet wounds. Tragically, he has also lost his eyesight due to a bullet fragment lodged in his eye socket. He has been admitted to the National Institute of Ophthalmology for nearly two weeks and it remains uncertain whether he will ever regain his vision.

Short Biography:
On August 5th, while covering the protests against the Sheikh Hasina government, Hasib was shot in Savar’s Radio Colony area. As he was performing his professional duty during the “Long March to Dhaka” protest, police opened fire indiscriminately. A police officer targeted Hasib, even after he identified himself as a journalist. Despite this, the officer fired rubber bullets at close range, causing severe injuries.

Event Details:
After the incident, Hasib was initially taken to Enam Medical College Hospital, but due to the escalating violence, he was later transferred to the National Institute of Ophthalmology. The hospital was overwhelmed with injured protesters.

Impact:
Hasib’s family is devastated by the incident. His father, Golam Mortuza, expressed his despair at his son’s loss of sight. Hasib himself is grappling with the reality of permanent blindness and the uncertainty of his future.
